KENLY, N.C. (AP) — The North Carolina Highway Patrol says a truck driver is facing manslaughter charges after five people died in a crash that shut down northbound Interstate 95 for nine hours. Officials say the crash happened Wednesday in Wilson County when a Freightliner tractor-trailer failed to reduce speed as traffic slowed and hit a Chevy Tahoe, a Toyota RAV-4 and two other tractor-trailers before catching fire. The highway patrol says five people in the two SUVs died and the tractor-trailer drivers were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
