Bryce Young beginning to show signs of confidence, growth in leading Panthers to back-to-back wins

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — After he broke the pocket and weaved his way up the field for a 24-yard gain, Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young briefly posed as he signaled for a first down in a rare display of confidence for the second-year quarterback. Young wasn’t great on Sunday, completing 15 of 25 passes for 126 yards with one touchdown, but he played mostly mistake-free while leading the Panthers to a 20-17 win over the New York Giants in Germany. Gunshots at Tuskegee University sent terrified students running for their lives

TUSKEGEE, Ala. (AP) — A Tuskegee University student says he hid under a car when heard the gunshots that ripped across his Alabama campus. Sid Guynn said Monday that he ran back to his dorm terrified by what sounded to him like a machine gun. The shooting early Sunday left one man dead and injured at least 16 other people Sunday. A dozen of them were injured by gunfire. Many of the injured were students. Authorities say 25-year-old Jaquez Myrick, of Montgomery, was arrested hours later. Officials say he had a handgun with a machine gun conversion device but have not accused him of the shooting.… Read More

A record 13 women will be governors next year after New Hampshire elected Kelly Ayotte

A record 13 women will serve as governor next year after the election of New Hampshire Republican Kelly Ayotte, breaking the record set in 2023. Ayotte, a former U.S. senator, defeated the Democratic nominee Joyce Craig, former mayor of New Hampshire’s largest city. Experts say women holding top public offices normalizes their presence and opens the door for more women to seek executive positions. Eighteen states have never had a woman in the governor’s office. Engines on 1.4 million Honda vehicles might fail, so US regulators open an investigation

DETROIT (AP) — U.S. auto safety regulators are investigating complaints that engines can fail on as many as 1.4 million Honda and Acura vehicles. The probe by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration covers the 2016 through 2020 Honda Pilot and Acura MDX, as well as the 2018 through 2020 Honda Odyssey and Acura TLX. Also included is the 2017 through 2019 Honda Ridgeline. The agency says connecting rod bearings on vehicles with 3.5-liter V6 engines can fail, leading to complete engine failure. Honda recalled about 250,000 vehicles in 2023 to fix the same problem. But the agency says it has 173 complaints from owners who reported bearing failures, yet their vehicles weren’t included in the recall. Cruise ship rescues 4 from disabled catamaran hundreds of miles off Bermuda, officials say

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (AP) — Officials say a cruise ship rescued four people from a disabled catamaran taking on water hundreds of miles off the coast of Bermuda. U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson Petty Officer 3rd Class Christine Bills says the catamaran’s escape hatch blew a gasket, causing the vessel to take on water about 265 miles off the coast of Bermuda. The Coast Guard put out a broadcast requesting assistance from the nearest ship. The Disney Cruise Line says the Disney Treasure, which was traveling from the Netherlands to Florida, responded and rescued all four passengers. A crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City in North Carolina launched a HC-130 to fly over the scene until the rescue was complete.… Read More

24 more monkeys that escaped from a South Carolina lab are recovered unharmed

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say more than half of the monkeys bred for medical research that escaped from a compound in South Carolina have been recovered unharmed. Police said Sunday that another 24 monkeys were captured, bringing the total number recovered to 25. Forty-three monkeys made a break for it Wednesday after an employee at the Alpha Genesis facility didn’t fully lock a door as she fed and checked on them. AVONDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Joey Logano won his third NACAR championship on Sunday with a relentless drive at Phoenix Raceway that gave Team Penske its third major motorsports title in less than a month. Logano held off Penske teammate Ryan Blaney over the final 20 laps to beat him to the Cup Series title by 0.330 seconds. Blaney was trying to become the first back-to-back champion since Jimmie Johnson won five straight from 2006 to 2010. Pineiro’s 36-yard field goal in OT lifts Panthers to 20-17 win over Giants in Germany

MUNICH (AP) — Eddy Pineiro kicked a 36-yard field goal in overtime and the Carolina Panthers made it back-to-back wins for the first time this season, beating the New York Giants 20-17 in Germany. The Giants won the coin toss to start overtime, but rookie running back Tyrone Tracy fumbled on the first play from scrimmage and Josey Jewell recovered at the 23 for the Panthers. Haul out the holly! Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree arrives in New York City

NEW YORK (AP) — The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree has arrived in New York City, signaling the start of the holiday season in the Big Apple. The 74-foot Norway spruce was driven into Manhattan’s Center Plaza and hoisted in place by a crane. It will take 5 miles of light strands with more than 50,000 multi-colored LED bulbs to wrap the tree. A Swarovski star crown sparkling with 3 million crystals will top it. The towering conifer was donated by a family in West Stockbridge, Massachusetts. It was cut down Thursday morning and loaded onto a flatbed truck for the 140-mile trip.
