NC Says February Jobless Rate Down A Notch To 9.4%

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Thousands of North Carolina residents quit looking for work in last month, a development that cut the state's unemployment rate slightly to 9.4 percent from 9.5 percent in January.

The state Commerce Department said Thursday that North Carolina's unemployment rate for February remained well above the national rate of 7.7 percent.

The agency reported earlier this month that North Carolina's unemployment rate rose to 9.5 percent in January as more than 9,000 people entered the labor force.

That turned around in February, with more than 35,000 workers no longer working or looking for work.
