NC Beginning To Thaw After Day Of Wintry Weather

(AP) -- Temperatures are slowing climbing across North Carolina as the state tries to thaw out from a day and night of wintry weather.

The N.C. Highway Patrol says troopers had responded to more than 250 calls by late Friday afternoon. Authorities say dozens of people were hospitalized after wrecks authorities say were caused by winter weather that moved through the state.

The freezing rain and sleet pelted the state but hadn't caused cascading power outages. Only a handful of Progress Energy customers reported outages in North Carolina. Duke Energy recorded about 2,800 outages, most of those in Guilford County.

Forecasters don't expect the frozen conditions to last long, with temperatures in the 50s and 60s by Tuesday.
